About Mike Miller

Mike Miller has written for his entire adult life and edited for nearly as long. He started working at the Journal Star daily newspaper in Peoria, Illinois, in 1978, covering local governments and writing feature stories. After an eight-year stint on the copy desk, where he edited stories and designed news and feature pages, Mike took over production of the paper’s TV book but, more importantly, pioneered the paper’s religion beat. That section expanded over the years, with Mike adding a weekly column and contributing to the paper’s content in other ways. In 2006, he won first place in the Illinois Press Association Feature Writing competition for a package of stories on a homesteading family in central Illinois. continue reading

Upwork client:

“I’m very happy with Michael’s work. He took an article and completely transformed it into what I needed. He worked fast and charged a fair price. I am looking forward to working with him again!”

Amos L., independent writer:

“A couple of years back, I hired Michael to give me an outside editorial perspective on a manuscript I was working on. I got more than I bargained for! I knew that Michael used to work as an editor for the Journal Star newspaper, but I didn’t realize he had so much experience contributing to books and other publications. Michael went above and beyond with the feedback, suggestions, and insight he shared with me. I highly recommend him.”

John Spencer, author of the ‘Solarium-3’ trilogy:

Mike Miller has done proofreading and editing on several of my now-published books. He is extremely careful and thorough, timely, and precise. Michael is also very friendly to work with and communicates promptly during any project. I recommend him highly.

Kracking the veneer of woke

Kracking the veneer of woke

Gotta be upfront: I stick with clients that have traditional values or, at least, aren’t espousing nontraditional values. That cuts down on business a bit, but I need to be open about it to avoid confusion after a job is started. No, I’m not going to query your voting...

Cereal box literature

Let's face it: Cereal companies conditioned Boomers to read while we indulged in a bowl of whatever (Quisp, anyone?). As an adult, what's your favorite reading material while having your bran? Mine used to be the physical newspaper, but now I tend toward blogs and,...
